Populations Strategies in Germnay and Australia

  1. Compare and contrast in an outline, diagram, or table.
    1. Germany
      1. Has currently a decreasing population making it a Class 4 country.
      2. In January, it adopted a bill to give tax breaks to families. It has also floated the idea of eliminating fees for kindergarten.
      3. The government offers 14 weeks maternity leave plus parental leave of up to 36 months, with the level of pay depending on a number of factors.
      4. It's population policies are integreted into most of their governmental policies.
      5. Their population plans usually focus in giving more rights to women, they even enacted a Second Plan on Rights on Men and Women.
      6. Health services and the educational services are also assesed while they are fighting the discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS.
      7. Health reform also focus on promoting the scientific development of environmental medicine. Have universal health care.
      8. Education seeks to work on this priorities:
        1. Protecting the climate and the ozone layer;
        2. Preserving the diversity of species of fauna and flora and protecting their habitats;
        3. Promoting economical use and recovery of raw materials;
        4. Protecting human health against environmental pollution;
        5. Increasing environmental compatibility of the transport sector; and
        6. Establishing the principle of responsibility for creation as an integral part of human activity.
      9. Poverty is also taken into account. Social Assistance is the last resort for all those who do not have sufficient income or assets and who are not sufficiently covered by the benefits of the primary social security system.
    2. Australia
      1. Faces overpopulation in some areas and chronic shortage of skilled labour in others thus making the control of regional differences one of its primary targets to overcome.
      2. Its government is commited to create a Sustainable Population Strategy.
      3. The policy's goal is to make Australia’s population (size, growth rate, composition and location) compatible with the sustainability of its economy, environment and communities.
      4. It will work hand to hand with national agendas such as climate change and water scarcity, service delivery reform, health reform, etc.
      5. It will focus on the aging population problem and in the migration of skilled labour.
      6. It assess the problems on national, regional, local, and community levels.
